Adjustments & Manipulation

Adjustment_2.jpg The term spinal adjustments, or spinal manipulation, refers to the minor, subtle movements of vertebrae in the spine when performed by the trained chiropractor.  The objective of this movement is to realign and/or restore movement to vertebrae that have moved out of place for a number of reasons ranging from normal daily activities to trauma such as falls, sports injuries, auto accidents, etc.  This 'central switchboard' misalignment often leads to varying amounts of spinal distortion that can negatively affect  normal functioning of the central and peripheral nervous system and and lead to unnecessary stress on the muscular system and visceral organs as well.

An adjustment is accomplished by the chiropractor utilizing the hands or an instrument to move a vertebrae back into place. This happens with a quick movement and usually without discomfort. There are many different adjusting methods available to chiropractors to perform these corrections. NOTE that the specialized, light force upper cervical corrections performed in this office (Atlas Orthogonal /Advanced Orthogonal), which are performed in a comfortable side posture position, are extremely precise and require NO NECK ROTATION, TWISTING or 'CRACKING' to be effective and are thus very well tolerated by patients of all ages, even when arthritis and advanced degenerative changes are present. Additionally, techniques used in this office to adjust the lower spine and pelvis (S.O.T and Flexion Distraction)  require NO TWISTING  to be accurate and effective and are also very comfortable for the patient.

Overall, adjustments are an excellent way to keep the body functioning at its highest level. When the body is in alignment, the body is able to respond to environmental stress and perform as it was designed to.
